The classic weapons return, including the legendary BFG, as do many of the classic enemy types upon which to use them. Checkpoints are fairly generous, though most of your deaths will come from a sometimes temperamental grab mechanic, at least on lower difficulties. Unusually for an FPS, you’ll find yourself doing a great deal of jumping and climbing, both in order to navigate through the sprawling maps and to reach cunningly hidden collectibles.

The controls sometimes feel a little obtuse for the console player, giving the impression that that this is principally a PC game, but the overall feel of the game doesn’t really suffer. The game requires constant movement to survive. There is no sprint button in Doom and walking is literally impossible.
